Safety Tips

How to stay safe while trading and networking in Kuala Lumpur

Meet in Public

Always meet in a well-lit public place. Popular options include shopping mall lobbies, MRT stations, or busy cafes.

Inspect Before Paying

Check the item thoroughly before making payment. Test electronics, check for damage, and verify authenticity.

Cash on Delivery

Pay only after you've received and inspected the item. Avoid advance payments to unknown sellers.

Use WhatsApp

Communicate through WhatsApp to keep a record of all conversations and agreements.

Document Everything

Take photos of the item and keep receipts. This helps if you need to report any issues later.

Look for Verified Sellers

Passport verified sellers have confirmed their identity, adding an extra layer of trust.

1. Check for Verification

Always look for the Blue Verified Badge on user profiles. This indicates they have passed our passport verification checks, which involves identity confirmation through official government documents.

2. Meet in Public

When meeting a seller or buyer, exchange items in safe, public locations like shopping malls (Pavilion, Suria KLCC, Mid Valley) or busy cafes. Avoid secluded areas or private residences for first-time meetings.

3. Secure Payments

For marketplace items, cash or instant bank transfer (DuitNow) upon inspection is best. Avoid paying large deposits for rental properties without viewing them first or verifying the agent's REN card.

Common Scams to Watch For

Overpayment Scam

Buyer sends a fake receipt for more than the price and asks for a "refund" via bank transfer.

Advance Fee Scam

Agents asking for "booking fees" or "viewing fees" before showing you a property.
